How does it work?

RuuviTag continuously sends tiny little messages over Bluetooth. One message is being sent every single second, 24/7.

Mobile phones nearby can hear the messages and that’s why there is no need to pair the device with your phone. Nice and clean.

History logging works with the same principle. The Android app is able to collect and store sensor data always when it hears the live messages.

In normal operating conditions, battery lifetime is 2+ years (theoretically 4 years).

Because range fully depends the environment devices are used in and also on how good Bluetooth antenna your phone has, we don’t guarantee or list any minimum or maximum ranges. However, we have measured some extreme ranges in open air. Note that any obstacles can significantly decrease the maximum range.

Important Notes

Please note that functions of RuuviTag 1-pack and RuuviTag 3-pack are identical. What differs is packaging.

RuuviTag 1-pack is a consumer packaged version but it’s also a simple step for companies to try out one device first before ordering larger batches and vice versa. Personal users are welcome to order bulk 3-pack RuuviTags if they would like to have more than two units.

Please note that history graphs and alerts are currently available only on Android. Both iOS and Android mobile apps are in continuous development and new features are to be added.
